The Turtle Islands Park, which includes Pulau Selingan, Pulau Bakkungaan Kechil, and Pulau Gulisan, have turtles coming up at night nearly the whole year round to lay their eggs. The turtle islands can be visited the whole year round but July to October are particularly good months because the turtles come up in large numbers during these months.
The Turtle Islands Park lying some 40 Km north of Sandakan and close to the Philippines border, comprises of a group of three beautiful tropical Green Turtle islands – Pulau Selingaan, Pulau Bakkungan Kechil and Pulau Gulisaan. The total park covers an area of 1,740 hectares embracing not only the three islands but also the surrounding coral reefs and the sea.
The Turtle Islands Parks, famous for its Green and Hawksbill turtles, can be visited the whole year round but July to October are particularly good months because more turtles come ashore to lay their eggs during these months. Pulau Selingaan has three fully-furnished chalets for accommodating up to 20 persons per night to enable visitors to watch and experience the ritual of a turtle laying her eggs. Pulau Selingaan has white sandy beaches and the waters surrounding it are extremely beautiful and clear, making it an excellent destination for resting and relaxation for the whole family.
